I’m Too Tired to Be High Maintenance
There was a time when getting ready apparently meant having a twelve step skincare routine, perfectly curled hair, flawless eyeliner, lip liner, lip gloss, blush, bronzer, highlighter and probably a small construction permit.
Honestly? I’m tired just typing that.
And apparently the beauty world is finally getting tired too.
The current beauty mood for fall 2026 is being called “lazy beauty,” which might be the most beautiful phrase I have ever heard. Recent runway looks have been leaning into bedhead, slightly smudged eyeliner, blurred lips and makeup that looks like you actually have a life instead of spending three hours getting ready to have a life.
And I am extremely here for it.
Please don’t make me do my hair
There is something deeply offensive about washing your hair and then realizing you are expected to do something with it.
Like, I washed it. What more do you want from me?
The new hair trend is basically saying that a little frizz is fine. A few weird pieces sticking out are fine. Hair that looks like you slept on it is apparently fashion now. At the Coach and Sandy Liang shows, stylists deliberately left hair loose, textured and imperfect instead of making every strand behave.
This is fantastic news for anyone who has ever looked in the mirror after getting ready and thought, “Well, I guess we’re wearing a hat.”
Smudged eyeliner is suddenly a feature
You know when you put on eyeliner and then accidentally rub your eye and spend the next ten minutes trying to fix it?
Don’t.
Congratulations. You are now fashionable.
Fall 2026 runway makeup included eyeliner that looked deliberately slept in, with softer, smudged edges instead of perfectly precise lines. There were also colourful eyeliner looks, including plum and teal, because apparently black eyeliner has been informed that it needs to start experimenting.
I actually love this because perfect eyeliner is one of those things that looks incredible until you try to do it yourself.
One eye: gorgeous.
Other eye: witness protection program.
Lips that don’t look like you used a ruler
The same thing is happening with lips. Instead of perfectly outlined lipstick, designers were showing blurred and slightly messy colour. Some looks were intentionally concentrated in the middle of the lips, giving that just bitten effect rather than the “I have been sitting in front of a mirror with a lip brush for 20 minutes” effect.
Lip stains are also still having a major moment because they are basically the lazy girl’s dream product. Put it on, blend it around, forget about it, go live your life. Beauty trend forecasters have specifically pointed to blurry, comfortable lip colours as a major direction for 2026.
Maybe looking imperfect is actually the point
I think what I like about this whole thing is that it doesn’t feel like another beauty trend telling us that we have finally discovered the correct way to look.
Because seriously, can we stop doing that?
Every few months there seems to be a new face we are supposed to have. First it was one thing, then another thing, then suddenly everyone was supposed to look completely different again. At some point I would like to look in the mirror without wondering which internet approved version of a person I am supposed to be today.
The new beauty mood feels much more like: you can look good without looking perfectly put together.
Maybe your hair is weird.
Maybe your eyeliner migrated slightly south overnight.
Maybe your lipstick is not perfectly symmetrical.
Maybe you were late and had exactly four minutes to get ready.
Congratulations. You still look cute.
And if the fashion people agree with you, even better.
I personally plan to embrace this trend as aggressively as possible. Not because I am making some huge statement about beauty standards.
Mostly because I would like to sleep for another twenty minutes.
Priorities.
